How do people get the IP addresses of other chatters in yahoo chat rooms?

I am a regular chatter in a yahoo chat room and recently have changed my user name often as i have been receiving ims from another user saying they know who i am and yes profanity..even though there are times i am not chatting in the room but still in the room they enter and almost immediately know what new id name i am using..frustrating and uncomfortable..help
