Will this work as a diet Choice?

Eating Chicken With White Rice, Every night, with a regular work out period, and lifting 30LBS pounds of water jugs each night 10-20 reps, and maybe regular check exercises, with sits up, will that be a good workout and get me fit, or at least to lose 20 pounds. Of course following Calories, and stuff.
